The Litigation Paralegal provides comprehensive support to attorneys throughout the entire litigation process for personal injury cases. This role involves managing case files, preparing litigation documents, coordinating discovery, communicating with clients, and ensuring cases progress efficiently toward settlement, mediation, or trial.
Responsibilities
1. Litigation Support
Draft and file pleadings, motions, notices, complaints, answers, affidavits, and other litigation-related documents.
Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including organizing trial binders, exhibits, witness lists, and demonstrative evidence.
Manage and update litigation calendars, including deadlines, hearings, depositions, and court-mandated timelines.
Prepare mediation and arbitration packages as required.
2. Discovery Management
Draft and respond to discovery requests (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission).
Organize, review, and summarize medical records, billing statements, insurance documents, and case evidence.
Coordinate depositions: schedule appointments, prepare subpoenas, and communicate with court reporters, experts, and clients.
Assist in preparing settlement demand packages and negotiation materials.
3. Client & Third-Party Communications
Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the litigation phase, providing clear, consistent, and empathetic communication.
Communicate with medical providers, insurance companies, opposing counsel, courts, and expert witnesses.
Provide clients with regular updates regarding case status, hearings, deadlines, and required documentation.
4. Case File Administration
Maintain well-organized and up-to-date case files using the firm’s case management software.
Ensure all evidence, correspondence, documents, and filings are properly uploaded and categorized.
Track case-related expenses and prepare cost summaries when needed.
Monitor statutes of limitations and ensure timely filing of complaints, motions, and other required documents.
Skills
1+ years of experience, preferably in Personal Injury litigation.
Excellent drafting, writing, and proofreading skills.
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with case management systems (e.g., Filevine, Needles, Clio, SmartAdvocate).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-focused approach.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a legal team.
